• AAA Birthday Card challenge #3 For the girls

    Hi everyone,

Today we are starting a new challenge over on the AAA Birthday challenge blog. It's the blog's 3rd challenge and my first official Design team post. I'm super excited for that!
The theme for game #3 is "For the girls" and you can find it here: game #3 For the girls

I'm a girly girl through and through. I love everything pink and glitter, so of course this card had to have just that. I recently saw a video from Lindsay Adreon on how to create the look of stained glass. It was so pretty and I wanted to create that for this card.

First I taped the 2 largest My favorite things wonky stitched rectangle dies together in order to cut 4 identical frames. I recommend thicker cardstock, or even watercolor cardstock, for this technique.
I cut a piece of acetate slightly smaller than the frame and adhered it to the front of one of the frames. I layered 2 more frames on top so the acetate was sandwiched in between the frames.
I squeezed out a generous amount of Pebeo gel medium gloss and added generous amonts of pink and purple fine and chunky glitter. I then spread it over the acetate. It was a bit difficult to level it evenly on such a big area. And even though I tried to level it with a ruler, some areas did turn out slightly thicker than others. But after it dried, it didn't show at all. The video says drying takes one day, but because of the larger area and uneven thickness this needed to dry for 2 days. It did warp a little so after it dried completely I placed it under my Misti to flatten it.

I mean, just look at all that glitter!
I covered the last frame in 2 layers of WOW! Primary Fuchsia fusion and cut the My favorite things Hooray die from MFT Razzle berry glitter cardstock.

For the inside panel I printed the Polkadoodles Ruby birthday cake and Ruby celebrations on Neenah cardstock and  colored them with my Copics. This I also cut with the MFT wonky stitched rectangle. I printed the images on paper as well, cut them out and added Tombow mono multi liquid glue, let it set to make them sticky and masked off the colored images.
For the floor I used MFT Ray of light stencil and Ground espresso oxide ink. I then masked off that and used Newton's Nook Confetti stencil and Victorian velvet oxide ink. Then I turned the stencil upside down and went over it with Shaded lilac oxide ink. The area between the floor and the confetti looked too white, so I blended on a tiny bit of Tattered rose oxide ink.
The sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp Big birthday wishes.

    Copics used:
    Skin: E04, E11, E00, E000, R20, RV14, RV21
    Hair: E50, E11, E21, E31, E23 / E23, E25, E27
    Eyes: B05, B00 / E37, E34
    Pink dress/shoes: RV66, RV55, RV52, V000
    Violet dress/shoes: BV04, BV02, BV01, BV000, BG13, BG23, BG11, BG000, W3, W1, W0, YR21, Y00
    Balloon: RV09, RV06, RV04, RV02, RV00
    Cake: RV06, RV21, RV02, RV00, YR16, Y06

Assembling the card was a bit tricky since I was using a die frame for the technique. This meant I couldn't cut the top panel longer. So in order to complete the card I cut a strip of cardstock, about 1"x4" and scored it halfway. I slid one side in between the layers of the frame. I flipped the inside panel upside down and placed a strip of double sided tape to the top. Laying the top panel over the inside panel I could then flip over the other side of the strip creating a top folding frame. This I adhered to the card base.

So there you have it! I hope to have inspired you!

Don't forget to jump on over to the AAA Birthday challenge blog Game #3 to join in the fun and to see the rest of the Design team's creations. We also have the winner of game #2 joining us as a guest designer, please also check out her card.
